MUSIC. PASSION. MURDER.
In this taut suspense thriller of dark secrets and even darker ambitions set within New York’s glittering world of classical music, Emma Raveling offers a taste of what’s to come in her forthcoming novel, A Woven Silence.
Leila Cates is close to achieving her dreams. With the support of the most powerful music agency in the world, the acknowledgment of influential artists, and the backing of the country’s wealthiest patrons, her career as an acclaimed concert pianist is on the fast track to international success.
Her path to certain stardom comes to a crashing halt when the body of her boyfriend, a world renowned conductor, is discovered on the eve of her New York debut. Witness reports of infidelity, temperamental artistic clashes, and the couple’s public fight the day before his death quickly label Leila as the primary suspect in his murder.
Desperate to clear her name, she sets out to uncover the truth with the reluctant help of Orion Frazier, the detective assigned to the case. But as their investigation deepens, the shadows of her past rise up to challenge her and her musical career.
With everything on the line, Leila must venture into a darkness she has long avoided and discover if she has the strength to face what she finds.
Breaking Measures is a stand-alone prequel novella to Emma Raveling’s next novel, A Woven Silence.

This will be my very final post on this particular site (Writing Ventures).
Keeping my website and blog separate has just become too complicated. I originally had some ideas about developing a writing community here, but my time is already stretched and I know that won’t be changing anytime soon. Since I’ve been working on redesigning my main website, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to combine both sites into one.
My author website will be shifting to the new design some time this week. Once that happens, new blog posts will go up there.
For those of you who occasionally stop by to see if I’ve posted anything or who find out about new posts via social media….nothing has changed.
But for blog subscribers, please note the following:
- If you subscribe via e-mail, I’ve automatically updated your settings so you’ll continue to receive new blog posts without interruption. Please note that the e-mails will be coming from a new address. Please add blog[at]emmaraveling[dot]com to your email server’s safe list so that it doesn’t go to spam. Also, emails will now indicate that EmmaRaveling.com has posted a new blog post.
- If you subscribe via RSS, you’ll need to update your feed. Once the new website is up and running next week, please stop by to grab the link.
And of course, if you only want to receive major announcements, bonus content, and exclusive extras, sign up for my newsletter!
Another newsletter will go out next week and will contain info on the special content I’ll be sharing this summer. 🙂
Were you able to guess the title from the puzzle pieces and hints? 🙂 Here are the answers to the three hints:
- Hint 1: 23rd, 2nd, 25th: This referred to the letters of the alphabet. “WBY”….or William Butler Yates (WB Yates)
- Hint 2: The Rose of Battle (one of Yates’ poems)
- Hint 3: 1st three on 13. A reference to the first three words of the poem on line 13 (which just so happens to be the title).
Here’s an excerpt of that poem:
Rose of all Roses, Rose of all the World!
The tall thought-woven sails, that flap unfurled
Above the tide of hours, trouble the air,
And God’s bell buoyed to be the water’s care;
While hushed from fear, or loud with hope, a band
With blown, spray-dabbled hair gather at hand,
Turn if you may from battles never done,
I call, as they go by me one by one,
Danger no refuge holds, and war no peace,
For him who hears love sing and never cease,
Beside her clean-swept hearth, her quiet shade:
But gather all for whom no love hath made
A woven silence, or but came to cast
A song into the air, and singing passed
To smile on the pale dawn; and gather you
Who have sought more than is in rain or dew,
Or in the sun and moon, or on the earth,
Or sighs amid the wandering, starry mirth,
Or comes in laughter from the sea’s sad lips,
And wage God’s battles in the long grey ships.
The sad, the lonely, the insatiable,
To these Old Night shall all her mystery tell;
God’s bell has claimed them by the little cry
Of their sad hearts, that may not live nor die.
-William Butler Yates, “The Rose of Battle”
There were many wonderful guesses, but the first person to guess the full title correctly was Heather Villalvazo who wins a signed paperback copy of any one of my books!
Additional winner: Yash Levi was the very first person to almost get the title right by guessing “Woven Silence” (so close!), so I’ve decided to also award her a signed paperback.
Congrats Heather and Yash – please email my assistant [aeicha(at)emmaraveling(dot)com] within 48 hours to claim your prize. And thank you to everyone for your participation and clever responses!

Here’s the final portion of the title reveal!
The full title will be revealed on Wednesday (April 22).
Once again, the hint is not a direct reference to the title. But in conjunction with the hints from the first and second posts, it does point to a clue that can help you get closer to it. 🙂
Leave a comment below (or on the Facebook or Instagram post ) with your best guess at the title! Whoever gets it first will receive a signed paperback of their choice from any one of my books.
- Giveaway is open international
- Please leave one comment for each guess. Multiple title guesses in a single comment will automatically be disqualified.
- You can enter as many times as you want. Just leave a comment for each separate guess.
- The giveaway will run from April 14 to April 22. Even if you get the right answer before the 22nd, I will NOT acknowledge the winner until the giveaway is complete.
- The winner will be announced on the day the full title is revealed (April 22). If several people left the same correct answer, the winner will be the person who posted first on any site (Facebook, Instagram, or my blog). I will go by the time/date stamp of the comment.
Can’t wait to see your answers…have fun!
